QueerBagh Cohorts & Residencies
QueerBagh Cohorts & Residencies
A Living Community for Reflection, Creativity, Leadership, and Belonging
QueerBagh is an LGBTQIA+ community initiative nurtured through Lakshya Trust at the Royal Establishment of Hanumanteshwar in Gujarat, India.
Located within the landscape of the Narmada Valley, QueerBagh brings together community, cultural heritage, wellness, creativity, scholarship, and conscious leadership. It offers an affirming environment where individuals may step away from the demands of daily life, experience a slower rhythm, reflect more deeply, and build meaningful relationships with others.
QueerBagh is more than a destination or temporary program. It is a growing community rooted in dignity, belonging, thoughtful dialogue, mindful living, and shared responsibility. Its residential cohorts are intentionally small so that every participant may be welcomed as an individual rather than becoming one person within a large retreat group.
The experiences offered through QueerBagh are designed for LGBTQIA+ individuals seeking personal restoration, protected creative space, leadership clarity, community connection, or time to consider what their next meaningful step may be.
The QueerBagh Philosophy
QueerBagh creates space for people to slow down, hear themselves more clearly, and reconnect with the parts of life and work that matter most.
Each cohort is shaped by four guiding principles:
Reflect
Create space for meditation, stillness, journaling, thoughtful conversation, and personal awareness.
Restore
Reconnect with wellbeing through rest, nature, yoga, swimming and water wellness, nourishing meals, and a slower daily rhythm.
Create
Develop writing, research, artistic work, community initiatives, leadership ideas, or other meaningful projects without productivity pressure.
Move Forward
Identify aligned next steps and return to daily life with greater clarity, purpose, and conscious intention.
Participation in reflective, wellness, and community activities is encouraged but remains invitational. QueerBagh values presence over performance and does not require participants to prove themselves through constant activity or completed outcomes.
Three Cohort Experiences
QueerBagh Restoration Residency
Rest. Reflect. Reconnect. Restore.
The QueerBagh Restoration Residency is designed for LGBTQIA+ individuals seeking time to rest, reconnect, and experience emotional grounding within an affirming community.
Many people carry the effects of visibility, advocacy, family expectations, professional pressure, community responsibility, emotional labor, and daily uncertainty. The Restoration Residency provides a gentler environment where participants may step away from constant urgency and reconnect with themselves through quiet reflection, shared community, nature, wellness, and slower living.
The experience may include:
- Meditation and reflective silence
- Yoga and gentle movement
- Swimming and water wellness
- Time in nature
- Shared meals
- Journaling and personal reflection
- Community conversations
- Cultural experiences
- Rest and unstructured personal time
- Opportunities for connection and belonging
This residency is not a clinical treatment program, crisis intervention service, party environment, dating program, or luxury wellness retreat. It is a non-clinical residential experience grounded in dignity, mindful living, emotional awareness, community, and restoration.
The purpose is not to promise transformation. The purpose is to create supportive conditions in which participants may rest, reflect, reconnect, and return to life feeling more grounded.
QueerBagh Creative & Leadership Residency
Reflect. Create. Lead. Move Forward.
The QueerBagh Creative & Leadership Residency is designed for LGBTQIA+ writers, artists, researchers, advocates, educators, nonprofit leaders, social entrepreneurs, storytellers, community builders, and changemakers seeking intentional space to deepen meaningful work.
Many people carry important ideas while also carrying exhaustion, urgency, overstimulation, and the emotional weight of leadership. This residency offers protected time to pause, reflect, create, and consider what conscious action may look like within their work and communities.
Participants may arrive with a project, question, creative practice, research interest, leadership challenge, or community initiative they wish to explore.
The residency follows a simple contemplative framework:
Meditation → Reflection → Conscious Action
The experience may include:
- Morning meditation and intentional stillness
- Journaling and reflective inquiry
- Protected writing or creative time
- Leadership and project-clarity conversations
- Research and cultural storytelling
- Conscious leadership practices
- Yoga, swimming, and water wellness
- Shared meals and community dialogue
- Individual reflection
- Time to identify aligned next steps
The residency does not reward constant productivity, perfection, or performance. Participants are not required to complete a project or produce a specific outcome. Instead, QueerBagh offers the conditions that support clarity, meaningful progress, and intentional creation.
Professional titles and public recognition are not required. Meaningful intention, curiosity, respect for community, and openness to reflective practices are more important than credentials.
QueerBagh Seasonal & Specialized Cohorts
Gather Around a Shared Purpose.
QueerBagh may also offer seasonal and special-interest cohorts focused on particular forms of learning, creativity, leadership, culture, or community development.

Life at Hanumanteshwar
The Royal Establishment of Hanumanteshwar is not simply the location of QueerBagh. It is part of the experience itself.
The estate offers a slower rhythm that is difficult to reproduce within ordinary daily life. Quiet mornings, open grounds, reflective spaces, shared meals, nature, swimming, wellness practices, and the rural landscape of Gujarat create an environment suited to contemplation and community.
Hanumanteshwar is connected to royal history, LGBTQIA+ advocacy, cultural heritage, hospitality, and the continuing work of Lakshya Trust and the QueerBagh community.
Within the residency experience, the royal setting is not presented as hierarchy or distance. It is understood as a place of service, welcome, reflection, community care, and responsible leadership.
Depending on the cohort, participants may also have opportunities to experience Rajpipla, the Narmada Valley, local communities, cultural sites, natural landscapes, and the broader heritage of the region.
